I have a unique problem and have hit my limits trying to solve it, although I believe it is possible. Here's the deal:
I have lots of matlab scripts on my iBook and a G4 running 10.2.4. Both machines are also running matlab. One of the toolboxes that I want to use is located on a linux server that I have an account on. This server is also running matlab.
Is it possible for me to mount the linux server (as an NFS mount or something) so that I can put it on the path in my local version of matlab (on my iBook or G4) so that matlab will look for scripts/functions/toolboxes on the linux box as well? I guess the real question is: can I mount the linux box in some way that it would be accessible to my iBook or G4.
I have X11 running and can log into all of the machines in question without problems using ssh.
thanks,
kman

I don't see why not - NFS should work just fine. You will have to set it up on both machines, however, which I don't know how to do.

Actually, NFS should be set up on both the Linux box and your Mac OS X machines...it's only a matter of configuring it. I would highly recommend Webmin - it's a great web-based management tool for most variety of Unices out there...and it can be a lifesaver if you aren't particularly fond of editing text files for configuring your applications.
Check it out!
The beauty of NFS (and Unix) is that you can mount an NFS share as a regular directory on your filesystem, making it look local, so you can use a direct path to that share.

Well, I downloaded NFS manager, but I'm fairly confused. Can someone give me some pointers for getting started. I entered in the server name that I generally log into and it says there are no shares available. Do I have to set up something on the linux box first?

You have to share the folders on the linux box first. Than you'll be able to mount the shares on your Mac boxes..

Webmin includes a Linux NFS share editing module as standard.

if you have root access on this server, another option is running Netatalk. It's probably not as elegant a solution as NFS, but it's super easy to setup. I'm not sure if it can be run as a user other than root though (although I could be wrong).
Wouldn't take more than a minute or two to download it from Sourceforge, compile it and see if you can get it to run.
