Has anyone been able to build either BX or Irssi under 10.2.4, using the Dec2002 DevTools? I keep getting errors up the wahzoo, and Fink has been moody for me. Any advice would be welcome on workarounds.

Yes, right now I'm using an irssi, which I compiled 3 days ago using the 12/2002 DevTools from fink.

irssi version is 0.8.6 (20021117 1611)
fink package manager is at 0.11.2
fink distribution is 0.5.1cvs

Hope that helps.

bitchX does not have good /keybindings.
irssi can change themes.
iirc you cannot connect to other servers while maintaining connection to existing servers in bitchx and in irssi you can.

those are a few. in general irssi just handles better imho. oh and it is not to hard to compile without fink you just need to know what flags to use to build and/or configure options. it took me a couple of days to figure out but i got it.

My last two installations of Fink didn't work, so I compiled BitchX from source and that seemed to be fairly fun, painless and quick. My Developer tools seem to be vintage Dec 2002 also.

Now if only I could figure out why it says my server is irc.prison.net ?

And how to register a nick?

I keep forgetting how to use it.

my best recommendation is to make an alias in your shell dotfile (ie .tcshrc):

alias make1 'make CC=" cc -no-cpp-precomp -D_INTL_REDIRECT_MACROS"'

then restart. then when you go to issue make use your alias make1 and the entire line is inputted saving you the time that it takes to type out " make CC=blah..."

this should get rid of most of your compile errors. other than that you have to make sure you have the necessary depends to build either one. when i built irssi it alone did not require to many depends but it's depends require more depends which i did not have. and so forth.

it was taking a long time until i started using those CFLAGS in the alias.

irc.prison.net is an Efnet server I believe.

To regisiter your nick use NickServ. The syntax should be something like:
/msg nickserv register <nick> <e-mail address> <password>

Where you fill in the correct information, minus the < and the > of course.

If that nickserv syntax doesn't work, /msg nickserv help should do the trick.

Have you tried any of the binary installers in the MacOSX section on http://www.bitchx.org/download.php ?
