Okay, been using Mac OS X for almost two years now on my G4, and I must say it's been a great experience, I absolutely love it. I've also been playing on and off with linux since 1998, but I've had alot of issues with it, the distributions I've tried Debian, Red Hat, Mandrake, and Lycoris, have all been really bloated and have performed poorly for me, crashing while compiling stuff, x-server crashes on and off, etc. Just has not been a good experience for me. Albeit I'm still learning, have read a few books on it, still reference back to them often. Right now I have decided to try Darwin, I installed it last night on my PIII 450, I like the fact that it install a good amount of stuff, but unlike linux it doesn't have a whole slew of packages that install a bunch of crap that I probably won't use. Started it up and it doesn't seem to detect my network or it's not liking my ethernet card, have 3COM 905c I believe...Anyway what I would like to do is fix this network/ethernet issue, if possible, install fink and start installing stuff, was wondering if anyone here can point me to a website, forums, irc room, book, etc that is for beginners in this subject like myself and that could help me out with these issues, just want to get up and running with the network and basically install KDE and a few other apps, any help would be appreciated, thanks.
