HEllo I was wondering if there is a way to hide the dock when an app is launched. Kinda what iMovie did.I would like to launch a app and have the dock hide it's self. But have it come back up when I go back to finder or maybe when the app I launched is quit then it would come back up. HMMM!
Is this possible or something htat can be done with apple script or some thing like that.
Thanks for the time

Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but have you tried Dockless?. It "makes running apps not show in the Dock" according to its creator. I've been using it and find it very useful. I have wClock which allows me to set the date & time like this:
Thu, 20 February 03 4:29:59 PM
Anyways, Dockless hides the wClock's icon from appearing in the dock. Because wClock is ALWAYS on, there is no need for me to see it or mess with it. I do the same thing for
PTHiTunesNotifier. Hope that helps.

Yapasu and ASM both had this functionality at one point.

I guess what I want to do is this when I launch a app have the dock hide then when I quit the app have the dock come up. iMovie did this. Could I write an apple script that lauches the app then hides the dock and use the apple script to launch the whole thing. One problem I have no idea how to write an apple script that will do this.

I'll try this again. Download ASM
It has a function to autohide the dock when you launch applications. Under the special features tab, set the Global settings to Dock Hiding "Off", then add the apps you want to hide the dock and set Dock Hiding to "On" for those specific apps. Unfortunately it's no longer freeware.

If you need the "freeware version" of ASM, I'll gladly send it to you. The guy originally released it under the GPL, so it's perfectly legal. Also, the shareware version 2.1b1 has a bunch of bugs under 10.2.x that are not present in the GPL version 2.0.3.

Are you sure it was GPL and not BSD? I thought the GPL had a clause in it that forbid you from ever making a non-GPL version using the same code.

Sigh. Yapasu used to do this, but Frank Vercruesse hasn't been updated it for Jaguar (or updated at all for months). The only way now to do this is to the use same feature in his now-shareware ASM.
I'm surprised no one else has jumped into providing a utility for this feature -- I found Yapasu very useful. I can't help but resist hunting for earlier versions of the free ASM (which will no doubt break at some point with future update of the OS), or paying for ASM when I don't want 80% of its intended functionality.
Oh well. Here's hoping that Apple or some other third-party releases a utility to do this, at a reasonable price.

I'm positive it was GPL'd. The version I have contains the GPL in the prefpane bundle. The GPL prohibits anyone but the original copyright holder from making non-GPL'd code. The copyright holder is allowed to whatever he/she wants with his/her code. However, if asked for the source code to version 2.0.3, the guy who wrote ASM is obligated to provide it for no more than the cost of the media.
Real, I'll send it to you as soon as I get home.

It does, but if you own the copyright you can of course relicense the code.

This is where it gets hairy. Can't you only relicense new versions? Therefore I have no right to get the source code to Yapasu or ASM 2.1b1, but I am entitled to the complete source code of 2.0.3, since it came with the GPL. Or does the GPL allow the copyright holder to revoke the GPL in favor of another license for his/her own code, even on versions whose source code has already been distributed? That would seem very un-RMS in spirit, not that I care much for RMS, but being able to learn from free software certainly is something I appreciate.
If the relicensing stipulation of the GPL is how I imagine it (I'm not reading the damn thing *again*), everyone is entitled to the source code to ASM 2.0.3 for 3 years after its release, regardless of the licensing on the new version.

If you were looking for a key command you should have just asked. I still think using ASM is still the best option. If you're switching back and forth between dockless and dock apps it does all the hiding and showing automatically.
I guess I'm just lazy

Yeah I kinda figured you weren't looking for the keyboard shortcut because until I read "not what you think" it was exactly what I was thinking. D'oh!
