iMac 500 10.2.4 256MB
I have checked the box in iChat Preferences "When iChat opens, automatically log in".
I have also made an alias of iChat and dragged it into the Login Items in the System Preferences app.
I restart the iMac....... The iChat application appears on screen with the "Buddy List", but refuses to log in. I have to manually log in.
My dial-up connection using ( Internet Connect ) is slow to fire-up and connect. Is it possible that the opening iChat app. is looking, then timeing out before the modem finishes its' business ? Cart before the horse ?
Using different apps. One at a time, the exact thing happens with my other apps. Safari, Mail, IE 5.2. .....Mail says it cannot find the server !
It's got me by the fuzzies.....

I can offer just a little help here. I know mail checks immediately upon opening for the server. Surely the modem cant dial and connect in 10 seconds time. I imagine iChat is the same way.

I do believe your correct. If she was connected to an 'always on' cable modem this would be a non-issue.
Thanks boardsurfer for your reply.
