Right now, Entourage is better for me. YMMV.

Me too, I don't like the idea of attachements doubling up and confusing people on PC's..there confused enough already. Is this still the case with the latest Mail build?

I prefer mail because, it's stable, fast and looks so damn good I hated the previous mail application in OS 10.1, it used to crash just by looking at it ( the new version has crashed once ), HTML mails didn't work 90% of the time ( much better but still not perfect ), searching in mail folders was slow ( the new search functionality is really fast and powerful ), the previous addressbook was really poor ( the new address book is much better ), rules were way too simple ( almost perfect now, some things are still missing ). Entourage was very unstable ( I have a lot of accounts ) but handled attachments and HTML mails much better, rules were more powerful and I could check my hotmail account, but the main reason I switched was the fact that I couldn't open word on one computer and entourage on the other at the same time. I still prefer the way entourage handles multiple accounts and the way it links a reply to the origninall message....

I think you can block port 2222 in the firewall and you should be ok.

Entourage is better for me. I have the same problem with attachments in Mail being received incorrectly by PC users.

I just switched from Entourage to Mail because it is suppose to deal with spam better.

I get 500+ pieces of spam each day so I'm hoping that it really does. Today is only day 2 so it's too early to tell yet.

I do find it annoying that it only gives me the choice of putting my sig after quoted text when replying to e-mail.

Also it will not let me define a different default sig for each account.

It is very pretty…

I have actually just switched from Mail.app to Entourage. I prefer its interface over Mail, it handles large amounts of e-mail better, has more options, plus I have been using it previously for almost 2 years.

edit: I forgot to mention that though I do use Entourage, I do not use its Calendar, I use iCal. And for contacts, I use Address Book and then export them to vCard every night and import to Entourage, so everyone is happy.

Entourage has more features, the spam filter gives Mail the edge.

(not that I need the spam filter since I STOPPED SPAM COLD with spambouncer!!)

I have the same problem with an enormous amount of spam every day. Entourage needs work in this area. Please let know how mail works out for you.

I've been using Entourage with SpamSieve and it's working rather well. 98% of my spam is getting dumped into a spam folder and I just empty that folder once/month.

I'm not sure how it compares to the Junk filter in Mail, but they're supposedly based on the same filtering method so they should work comparably.

I used Entourage for a long time but really all's I wanted was a small footprint mailer with good spam filtering. When Mail was fixed around 10.l.5 or something I switched.
Another consideration was email backup and storage. Entourage uses one db file to store all mail, if this thing is messed up all your mail's messed up. The problem can be avoided I guess by regularly backing up your db but I'd rather not have to worry about it.
And then I just got sick of MS products.
i look in your general direction

I use Mail (used Entourage until about 2 months ago). However, Mail really needs to upgrade its features!!! I'm considering going back to Entourage if Mail doesn't come through soon.

Shouldn't the real question be whether Entourage is worth $99 more than Mail?

Bah. Silly question. A better question would be "which is better for me?" or "... for purpose X?"

For me? It's Mail, but for others I know it's entourage.

wow. how revealing.

You are right about the one db problem. My Entourage db got corrupted. I contacted Microsoft and they were little help. I lost my entire email history and could not recover it.
