I originally posted a note over in the peripherals thinking this was an iPod problem.

Here it is....

However, I now think that this is an OSX problem. At least it's a problem with my system. The drive doesn't seem to be mounting at all in the Finder yet if I go into System Profiler I can see it there.

I also tried to install the iPod updater on my G4 in an effort to reset the whole thing, but when the Disk Copy process starts I get this towards the end of the mounting.

Anyone, seen anything like this before???

Don't know how I broke a pipe. Do I need a plumber?

Thanks in advance for any assistance....

Cheers,

Jordan

Can you mount other images? If you can, redownload the updater (http://kbase.info.apple.com/cgi-bin/...;val=KC.122014). If not, reinstall Jaguar.

The iPod software appears in Software Update too... try trashing the iPod reciept and redownloading it with SU if nothing else works.

you don't by chance have that plug-in that instead of downloading the .dmg just mounts it for you, do you? If so it seems that maybe it's not getting the whole image...

Thanks for the responses.

After a bit more experimentation it turns out that I can't mount other images that are on my disk.

Bugger!! I guess this means that I have to reinstall Jaguar. I was hoping to avoid this.

Any last ditch advice????

Don't consider reinstalling Jaguar until you've tried some other stuff.

First try reinstalling the latest OS update that you are using.

Either delete the receipt (/Library/Receipts) and then check the software update

or just download the standalone updater (of course you may have a problem with disk copy not working properly).

Maybe that will help.

The problem with reinstalling Jag is that you may have to erase the existing partition, since OS X.2 may not be able write over 10.2.4 etc.

So if you have to go through that route backing up your 3rd party apps and home directory will be necessary.

Good luck

Neil

Thanks for the advice Neil.

After reinstalling the latest OS update and the latest iPod update, I managed to get my iPod restored and mounted on the desktop. iTunes also started and showed it inside. Problem is that when it went to update the songs it just sat there for ages (about an hour) seeming to be stuck. I eventually quit out and am back to the start again.

Seriously think that something is screwy in the OS now. The iPod still mounts fine on the PowerBook and appears to have nothing wrong with it. I can mount the PowerBook as a FireWire device on the G4 also without issue.

Any other clues anyone???

Thanks,

Jordan

Forgot to add. I now can't drag within the Finder anymore. I can click and select things but can't drag them to the Trash. If I restart it fixes things until I start mucking around with the iPod again.

Have you tried repairing the permissions on your Mac OS X partition?

This can be done from within Disk Utility.

you might also want to start up in single user mode (boot with Apple + S), and at the prompt type "fsck" to repair your drive.

Hope this helps!

I had a problem with my iPod after the 10.2.4 update where iTunes wouldn't see my iPod, but my system could. I had to reinstall iTunes and the iPod firmware updater to get it to work again. Was there something in the OS X.2.4 updater?
