I can't eject any CDs from my eMac at home. I get the message from the Finder that the cd is being used by another application. Console reports this:
Feb 23 08:56:52 localhost /sbin/autodiskmount[243]: EjectDisk('disk1') ioctl(DKIOCEJECT) failed: 16 (Device busy)
This problem occurs with any type of cd inserted, audio, game, whatever. I've quit all open apps before thrying to eject but this doen't help. Also, the icon diappears from the desktop even though the tray won't open.
I can eject the CD by resarting the computer, but this is rather tedious.
Using 10.2.4. Any suggestions?

You might want to try this Terminal command to force eject the CD as posted in another thread recently:
Code:
sudo hdiutil eject -force /dev/disk1
If this is a persistent problem, you could write an AppleScript to run this as follows
Code:
do shell script "sudo hdiutil eject -force /dev/disk2"
Although this obviously isn't a very good permanent solution...

Did you try installing the eject menu extra? Sometimes it will help open a tray that can't be opened otherwise.
Do a search for "Eject.menu" (it's somewhere in core services), drag this to your menu bar and it will turn into an eject icon that will open/close your cdrom tray (unless you have a slot loading drive).

Its not that the cd tray can't open, its more that the Finder thinks the CD is being used by an application. If I try and eject the CD (by dragging it to the trash, hititng the keyboard eject key, using the eject menu bar, or the eject button in iTunes) the disc will unmount (disappear from the desktop) but the tray will not open. If I restart the computer it sort of clears up the confucion about the disk being in use and I can eject it. What is causing the Finder to act this way?
