When I connect my iBook to my dad's cable modem, I often get a different IP than the last time. I'd like to have it automatically update the IP when it wants a new IP. I can do this with a simple curl command to a URL. Is there some way I can do this? Similar to the ip-up, and ip-down scripts of the PPP connection?

I'd do it at startup but I often just close my iBook and not shut it down, so that won't work often.

<bump>

There's no way to detect network activity? Is there a way to have a cron script running then, where it only tries to contact the website if the interface is active? I could choose the interface if I knew how to detect if it's active.
