Hi. I have loads of questions about the mac:

1) how do you update jaguar's built in apache if, let's say, apache releases a new version of its web server? Must I wait for apple, or can I DIY it?

2) For a linux user, how can I install linux onto a mac?

3) Instead of messing with the httpd.conf file, is there an application with user interface to configure apache?

4) same, what applications can you use to configure the built in mail server and firewall?

Thanks.

1. No and yes.

2. Same as on a PC.

3. vi.

4. vi.

You should be asking these questions in the UNIX forum, since they all apply to UNIX. You will get *helpful* answers there.

1) It's easier to wait for Apple, but you can update Apache if you want to.

2) You need a clean partition and a copy of a distribution such as Yellow Dog Linux or Red Hat. I don't use Linux, so I don't really know what people use. I'd guess Red Hat.

3) The easiest solution is to use Mac OS X Server, but it's not free. A free alternative is Webmin.

4) Webmin can do Sendmail while BrickHouse is used to configure the built-in firewall.
