I have 2 macs, one is sharing it's internet via Airport to my other mac, the problem is, software update always gives me an error on the Mac getting internet via Airport, anyone else get this problem and how can I fix it?

I happens to me from time to time, most usually on my iBook, which shares a broadband Airport connection generated by my iMac superdrive with two other desktop machines. However, there is no particular pattern to this and it sometimes even happens on the Mac that is directly connected to the net via an ethernet router.

I have found that the best workaround for this is to select the "Download to desktop" option from the active Software update application menu bar. The updates will appear on your desktop as packages which you need to double-click to enable them to mount and install following the usual instructions.

Hope this helps!

I use my iMac as a software base station for my PB. Never had any problems here.

I think it is a bug in Software Update, as I have experienced this issue in several Macs running OS X.

Try turning off firewalls and encryption and then run SU. Maybe that will help for the occasions when you need SU.

I have noticed that using my iBook wirelessly from my Power Mac (via software base station), several password protected web sites don't work if the firewall/and or encryption is turned on. Maybe that has something to do with it?
