I cannot seem to find an OS X equivalent of Apple File Security - a utility in OS 9 that allows to encrypt/decrypt any file.

Is it really so that after so many updates to 10.x Apple overlooked this essential functionality?

If so, any suggestions for third-party utilities?

Thank you.

PS. Apple File Security does work in Classic, but I want to use 9 as little as possible.

Encrypted disk images are the OS X equivalent. An advantage that they offer is that you can work on the file directly from the encrypted image. In OS 9, it was necessary to decrypt the file before using it, then re-encrypting when done.

I asked the same question a few days ago, and I discovered Encrypted DMGs. But is it possible to make an automatically adjsuting DMG, this means: when I add a file to the DMG it adjusts it's size to that file. Example: I drop a 50MB PSD on this DMG, but this DMG is only 20MB. Is it possible that this DMG becomes 50MB to accomodate the 50MB file, automatically ?
