I tried setting up my microphone (Sony ECM-MS957) with PowerBook G4/867. When go to System Pref -> Sound -> Input -> Line In, and put the sensitivity up to max, there's barely any response. I have to scream into it get any signal. I know the mic's not the problem (I use it to record on my MD).

Thoughts? Suggestions?

minidisc recorders have powererd line-ins, you'll need that in order to let your mic work. so the only option is another mic (or maybe via the Griffin iMic, but I'm not sure if it supports that)

The mic provides it's own power (battery).. Unfortunately, I don't have another mic to check if it's my problem or the PowerBook's.

um.

it sounds like the battery in the mic is dead.

have you made sure this is not the case?

Quite sure -- it still works well with my MD.

Normally you need a line-in with a +20db amplifier. The normal output of a microphone is very low (compared to other devices like a CD player, etc.). So it seems that the powerbook has only a normal line-in. So, now you can buy something like the iMic (they have line-ins with +20db) or something similar...

Have fun!
