Hi all. I found Apple's new piece of software that fixes the way that Mac OS 9 jumbled up non English characters (such as Russian). This is great for my Russian mp3s that I have. Unfortunantly my iPod does not support cryllic text! Ahh! I can't seem to find any sort of patch. Does anyone know if one exists or if Apple has plans to support this sort of thing? I also have some songs that have symbols (hearts, stars, upside-down 'a's and the like). Will Apple build unicode support into the iPod? That would be really cool. I don't see why such a thing couldn't be implimented. The iPod has a high enough rez screen.

Well its a pain, but I do not know of a workaround. Try complaining to Apple about lack of support for cyrillic. The untimatelly small user base is probably the reason for lack of support and I can completely understand that.
At least Safari renders pages with cyrillic properly. IE would treat space between letter as equal to <space>. Soeverythinglookedlikethisoneverypagewithcyrillico nit.

This has been pretty much my only problem with my iPod. It displays my Japanese and Korean ID3 tags just fine, but not the Russian ones. As far as I know there's no workaround for it, but I keep hoping Apple will provide one. Как жаль.

Yeah, if you have no taste.
Try something good, like the brilliant green, Do As Infinity, and ACO.

Hmm, now I just need a legal way to *evaluate* your recommendations ... (I wish there was a sarcastic smile of some kind on these forums).
wataru: I have some 'Do As Infinity' stuff which is pretty OK. But I am going to look for some 'brilliant green', I don't think I've heard them yet.

Hey! We Greek users are in the same position... iTunes has WONDERFUL Unicode support (and all my Greek MP3s have Greek titles on them, thanks to Unicode and good ol' Lucida Grande). The only problem is, if I had an iPod, I wouldn't be able to see those titles, unless I used latin characters instead.

I've checked with Apple Russia tech support and they told me Russian is not supported yet - see their answer below, if you can read Russian:

I submitted feedback form about this issue to Apple. I guess I will have to wait with purchasing an iPod until they address this issue.

I bought my iMac in NYC, installed Russian fonts, translit keyboard layout and everything works just fine - iTunes creates folder witn Russian names, etc. I am using OS X 10.2.4.

No Icelandic letters (þýð) either in the iPod. Darn.

He's talking about on the iPod. Of course it works in iTunes--anything that supports Unicode will work just fine.
