So there are some items in my "Services..." menu that really shouldn't be there and are from applications that were demos, etc. that I've long since trashed. How does one remove items from this menu?

Thanks!

The services menu is populated by searching your applications folder for apps that provide services.

if they have been trashed then the services should not be there.

If you have not logged-out since trashing the apps - then try logging-out.
You know it makes sense. ☼ ☼ ☼ Growl.

Also, check the contents of your ~/Library/Services folder (if you have one) to see if there are any remnants in there.

There's an service menu item "Make New Sticky Note" but when I choose it, it tries to launch classic.

I can't imagine that's from OS X stickies?

Any ideas?

It appears that your file/application associations have been corrupted or set incorrectly. Remove the "LS Applications", "LS Claimed Types" and "LS Schemes" files from your ~/Library/Preferences folder to e.g. the Desktop.

Logout, then back in and try again - that Service should then launch the OS X Stickies. If it does then you should just delete the files on your desktop. Be aware that this will reset all the file type/application associations to their defaults, so if you changed any (e.g. pdf to be opened by Acrobat instead of Preview), you will have to do them again.

I don't appear to have:

"..."LS Applications", "LS Claimed Types" and "LS Schemes" files from your ~/Library/Preferences folder..."

anywhere on my TiBook or QuickSilver!

Search / for names of items that appear in you Services menu ... and then just delete whatever shows up in the results.

Often times there are items in /Library/Blah! that control items in contextual menus ... and possibly Services menu. It is worth a try.

P.S.

Dude, that is sooo 10.1! Look for ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices.UserCache.csstore and /Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices.LocalCache.csstore. Try deleting the second one first, as the first contains your custom file/application bindings.
