I almost forgot about that Gateway ad. I just took a look at their laptops, and they're not *that* ugly.

A little OT question: Could Apple take legal action over this? They are using a PowerBook to sell their laptops, aren't they?

There's a lot of pro-Mac ad agency people out there that tend to use Apple products inb their work, since it's what they have readily at hand to photograph, and the stuff looks all high-tech-like. Then, when they need to throw something together for a campaign, they've got all this stock imagery with Apple products in it, and it either doesn't get caught, or I would imagine sometimes, it's done on purpose, with a wink, to see if it'll get caught.

That website is beyond blatant, though. It must be on purpose to show two losers who can't access their site, either.

It's mirrored because they flipped the photo.

As for funny designer jokes, my favorite was when you open a PC Store Mag and all the screenshots on the laptops are all OS 9.

This is a language school, right?
Why would they put up a web page, that "shows two losers like you, who can't access our web site"?

That's as stupid as a gas station not selling gas to blue cars.

It does seem idiotic to me as well. I can scarcely belive it was intentional really, but I am admittedly stumped for another explanation. Can the web designer really be THAT dumb?

Works with IE 5.1 on OS 9 maybe that's what the PB was running
hahaha

Yeah I find it halarious how much product placement I see with Macs... even though half the time it's not that apple payed them because they cover up the apple. I think Just Shoot Me used to have an OK from apple but then didn't cause recently I saw an episode where Finch's iBook had stickers over the apple. But they didn't used to do that.
Also CSI miami has tons of iMacs all through their sets. I recently saw a PowerBook Ti on Daredevil. There were macs in MIB2. Most of our telephone company's DSL adds use Mac windows and stuff. The old Fox Kids adds for their websites always had them showing in IE for Mac. Famous Players adds are on an iMac. Suzie orman has an iBook and a PC, but she's got a sticker over the apple logo. Jenavive on Trading Spaces had and iBook and also has a Power Book... or she switched from PB to iBook or something, she on one show was like and I take the images into my iB-... I mean computer, and then she also couldn't mention that she did it in photoshop but you could see it right there.
Qiute funny. I also saw one of the designers on While You Were Out using a PB.
What else.. Crossing Jordan had an Power Book on it, I've seen Macs on law and order too.

In the real world apple has 3% market share... on TV they must have at least 75%

That is hilarious!

Another thing I've notices is that the guy in the photo is using a mouse, that looks like its plugged into the DVI or S-Video port ... cuz the USB ports are on the right on regular PB (or thats how it is on mine).

The whole oddity thing could be caused by them mirrowing the image ... anyhow, it just looks idiotic to me.

> They use Macs in a lot of commercials on this side of the ocean as well. Just saw Renault Clio commercial the other day and they used a TiBook w/ a hockey-puck mouse from the CRT iMacs in it, the Apple logo was covered with tape, of course.

Works in Safari with the User Agent changed, of course. This kind of crap makes me mad. If people would stick to web standards, they could allow ANY browser to view it. If it doesn't work then it's the browser's fault.
