I have two apps that I need to run that are still Windows only. In looking at the price of VPC, I will to consider a few alternatives before I plunk down the cash. I don't need anything super fast as I'm not doing CAD or games, just a research tool and a CSS editor.

What else is out there besides VPC? I just heard about this WinTel by OpenOSX. How is that? Are there any others?

WinTel is Bochs. I'm not patient enough to wait for a DOS game to launch in Bochs. I doubt Windows would be fun.

Seriously, VPC is your only choice.

emulation.net is a great place to find info about any emulators available from gaming consoles to computer to graphing calculators.

This is where you will want to look though.
