my ibook and macos X has been the first time that i have ever been able to not need to boot into windows for a computer task.

unfortunately the desktop computer world seems to revolve around windows. everything is out there for windows. and just to go against the grain and see if i could, i have tried to not use windows for as long as possible.

i had linux running on my pc. i am just not a big linux fan. i have setup lots of apache webservers on linux, that is fine. i set them up, put them in the server room and leave them and they do their job and serve web. but on the desktop, i just can not use linux everyday for all my everday needs. so it was not long before i was booting back into windows for tasks.

the other thing i tried was beos 5. personally i really liked beos. unfortunately they had to go under and get bought out by a company that does not _seem_ to be doing anything for the os. since a lot of the software for beos is a bit... old, i had some trouble with stuff. so not long after that, i was back to windows.

then i got my ibook. my first step into the world of apple. i have used them in the shops, i have played with my friends at his work. everything is great, i have everything on here that i have on my windows pc, and i saw no need for me to go and sit in front of the windows pc again. then came the printing to our shared printer (on a xp computer). i have been rather busy lately and i just have not had time to sit and figure out why print center kept on saying "can not connect to samba server". then today, instead of studying like i should have been i took the time and finally got the connection to the windows xp shared printer working perfectly.

in closing, i can say that i have finally completed my goal to not need to boot to windows anymore.

1 more thing. people need to learn about macs before they talk crap about them. i now see this after owning one and talking to non mac owners. so *very* annoying when they just talk the biggest load of crap!

same thing happens when little apple fans talk about PCs..

some of the people on this board are just as ignorant to the PC world as PC users are to the mac world, it's just a smaller community so you don't hear it as much.

The chances of a Mac user having legitamate, negative experience with a PC are much greater than the reverse scenario. There are people who know absolutely nothing about PCs, but most Mac users have at least used a PC in the last year. Can't say the same thing about your average Mac-basher.

Most Mac users have a basic understanding of Windows. Most Windows users don't even know about OS X. I can live in a Windows world because I can make everything work with a PC (printing, sharing documents, email etc.)

I find most Mac users to fall into two categories. Those that are MUCH more knowledgeable about computers, and those that don't give a rats ass about how the computer works.

Everyone that reads this forum on a regular basis falls into the first category. The second group are the people using the OS that came with the computer.
