At this moment I'm doing all the following simultaneously on an iMac 800 running OS X 10.2.4 ....

1. Surfing the net in Safari.

2. Listening to my music collection in iTunes.

3. Extracting and burning copies of several music CDs in Toast Lite.

4. Periodically viewing a downloaded QuickTime movie.

5. Periodically using Mail to perform various email related tasks.

Throughout all of this, OS X has remained fluid and responsive. iTunes hasn't skipped once! QuickTime hasn't skipped once! Very nice indeed.

Of course, this isn't "big news" or anything, but I though it would be nice to spread a few positive comments on the board!

I know exactly what you mean. OS X has changed the way I use my Mac. Multitasking is done without problem, the system distributes the tasks admirably. OS X is off the hook. There is plenty room for improvement but I'm not complaining.
I could take Sean Connery in a fight... I could definitely take him.

i sit and do some vlc .divx movie watching, chatting via proteus and webdesign. still fluid and amazing on my ibook 800.

osX is an amazing operating system. i let a pc user friend of mine at college try out the ibook and one thing she said was that she was very impressed how snappy it is.

Multi-tasking is great on my eMac, too. by contrast, my brand-new Dell laptop at work running Windows 2000 can absolutely choke to the point that you wonder if it will ever recover when doing an application switch sometimes.

Try running Lotus Notes, PowerPoint, and Mozilla on a Windows machine with its stock 256MB RAM and you'll wonder what you ever got into. I almost feel sorry for the poor computer. Nah...

Yes, I have to agree. Mainly because it's true OS X multitasking is the bomb.

OS X is fantastic and Apple would be dead without it. OS 0-9 was great but reached its limit. OS X takes everything to a new level. There are very few things that were in OS 9 that I want in OS X. The only thing is beter read/write with MS-DOS drives.
Yes, I know I could buy a PC, but why?

I hear ya. Rendering in Bryce, doing Photoshop work, iTunes, and checking mail and browsing is a time-saver. (On a dual-800, o' course.) Now imagine a dual-PPC970. *drool*
