I did a search and found others that have gotten locked out of their own keychains, but there were no really good solutions offered there. I tried Disk Warrior and the KeyChaiin First Aid app from Apple, and I even tried deleting my old keychain with the Keychain app and with the finder and creating a new one, but that one won't work either. I deleted the keychain prefs to no avail. I couldn't get it to accept my password at all, and now that I've deleted my old keychain, I can't get it to create a new one. Please..... someone; tell me how to get this computer straightened out!

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.

You could try running Repair Disk Permissions from the First Aid tab of Disk Utility. I don't know if Disk Warrior does that sort of thing or not. Obviously there is something amiss with your installation. (What kind of error do you get wehn trying to create a new Keychain?)

Thanks for the suggestion! I tried the permissions repair and Norton Disc doctor today too and it still won't accept my password. When trying to create a new keychain it doesn't give me an error message at all... there just isn't one there afterwards. Still frustrated and hoping for the answer!

Well, turns out that problem was an error in the Carbon Copy Cloning I did to get my system back on my computer after it came back from repair. I never had any problem before, but I got an error that a system log wasn't cloned because it was too large and I pushed the button to ignore the error rather than to stop the cloning. Everything else seemed fine except for the keychain, but once I remembered the error I recloned from my backup and everything is fine now. No one else will probably ever see this glitch but I thought I'd better post a followup in case anyone ever does.

I love the U.S., but we need some time apart.

i've just developed exactly the same problem. but in my case it seems to be the result of a kernel panic while burning a CD with toast 5,2. i got locked out of my original keychain [ie. the proper password wouldn't work] and had to delete it.

now whenever i try to create the new keychain, it acts like it has done so, but no keychain is created. keychainfirstaid reports that it was unable to repair the keychain. after reading a few postings here, i also tried deleting keychain's prefs but no luck there either.

i've also tried repairing permissions. any other ideas?

This is EXACTLY what is happening to me now! Help! What can I do to fix this? I ran Keychain First Aid and it is unable to repair.

well, i'm afraid i can't be the bearer of any good tidings. further to my keychain developing the abovementioned problem, nothing i tried worked and eventually i had to bite the bullet and do a full re-install of the system. methinks this drastic course of action is needed far too often when things go wrong with OSX.
