Well,

I got the new machine, set it up and everything was 100X better. This morning I check e-mail, etc. before going to work as usual. after I was all done I set the mouse to the upper corner (to activate the screen saver) and BAM kernel panic...

The weird thing is it's not logged in the system profiler? is there something I have to do to enable logging?

Hopefully this was a fluke

Have you tried duplicating it? Tried re-activating the screensaver again?

I was in a hurry and had to leave for work, I activate it every time I leave my mac... and have done so numerous times before.

This is with MarineAquarium BTW.

Sounds to me like a piece of hardware you were using on the old machine and are now using on the new machine is bad, or its driver is crap.

I would try running w/o any external hardware and see if the panics continue.

The only hardware I am re-using is:

HK Sondsticks
EPSON 880 Printer (Its always OFF)
UMAX 6500 Scanner
Logitec Mouseman Mouse/Kensington Studio Mouse
(have tried both mice with same results so I think Ive ruled out the mouse)

Why would I have a Kernel Panic but not have a panic log?

They seem to be very sensitive to different types of RAM. I just bought some from Crucial and my 2x1GB MDD seems to be running much more stable so far (*knocks on wood*.) I was getting a lot of KPs, especially around sleep, and occasional strange apps not launching with some Corsair XMS RAM I was previously using.

Well if you miss 'em that much, then pop some some Corsair XMS into a MDD like I did. Eventually you will see KPs of every type, the classic perma-freeze, and the even the occasional Windows-styled blue screen of death.

At this point I should also menyion that there are other threads about this over at the Power Mac forum.

I figured out it was my soundsticks plugged in to a 3rd part USB card, it didnt like that and switched to internal audio (but didn't tell the rest of the system) I hit the screen saver (with audio) and it freaked out!

all is better now

thanks

Well why didn't you list that among our assets in the first place?
