Why isn't text anti-aliased in screen captures

Since OS X creates pdf's from screen captures..shouldn't the text be anti-aliased?

the screen captures are not layered things with individual text selections
THEY ARE JUST PDF Pictures, just like if they were a JPG..

But the text IS antialiased. It's exactly as it shows up on your screen.

They probably are JPEG's, just wrapped in a PDF.
In earlier versions of OSX, the text actually was in vector form if you used a PDF as your screenshot format. But they don't do that anymore. I don't now why.

Probably because people didn't like waiting 5 minutes while it created the file
