Hi
I received an email to my Entourage inbox that I could not delete from my inbox.
It's subject line "Good morning from Ms. Anna"
In the preview pane I could see that it was some sort of financial scam.
I pressed "delete" and the e-mail duplicated itself.
I did this several times, winding up with 8 copies of the email.
At that point I decided to simply Transfer/Move all emails to a new folder I created. I then was able to delete from the new folder.

Is my Entourage "infected" at this point?
What woudl be the most appropriate software to figure out if this email installed malicious code on my machine?

I wasn't aware of any viruses for Mac OS X, or malicious e-mails for Mac OS X.

I doubt your system is infected. If anything its a malicious e-mail and not a virus.

Run an anti-virus program if your worried, norton or virex?

maybe it is just a bug in entourage. did u try to rebuild the database? Hold ALT while starting the program.

I doubt you are the first and only to encounter such a virus...

best wishes,

I think for too long mac users have thought their system were unable to be infected.
But we all know that with Microsoft software comes bugs and some macro virus. I would check with Microsoft first before you buy anti-virus software. Sometimes even the worse company can have good solutions.

Are you using a keyboard shortcut. I frequently press cmd-D thinking it will be delete, but it turns out to be duplicate.

did you try using 'move to trash' with the contextual menu? i'm doubtful it's a virus, the behavior is wrong for a start

rotfl, sounds like an entourage bug.

Guys, remember, an email is basically just TEXT you download from a server. As long as you don't open an executable that was attached with it, you're okay. And as long as that email does not exploit a security hole in your email software, you're okay. I doubt someone tried to even find a hole in entourage, as it would probably be useless.

*But* yes, security holes can be pretty lame. I know an iChat security hole that consists in changing the headers of a JPG image and sending it directly ( via AIM's direct connect ) to a buddy. The computer won't be able to decode it and will crash or even , in some cases, Kernel Panic.

edit: OMG 600th post

My keyboard has option in big letters and alt in little letters. I guess alt is for little people.
