Does anyone know how to capture frames from a DVD movie? The Command+4 OR Command+Shift+4 does not work when a DVD is playing!!

You can;t get frames but you can get screen shots of a movie but not natively in X. You need to get DVDCapture, go to versiontracker.com and get it.

i'd go with dvd capture, i've found vlc to be quite slow and unresponsive with regards to pausing etc.. the apple dvd player is a lot better.

DVDCapture (if it's what I'm thinking of) doesn't work on all hardware. Says this in the readme and also on VT. Didn't work for me on my iBook 500, but maybe it'll work for you. I have no idea what it requires to work, but certainly my iBook doesn't have it.

any 3rd party screen capture app will capture dvd frame grabs in macs using quartz extreme (in jaguar). The OSX built in one doesn't work whilst the dvd player is running to appease dvd makers, not for technical reasons. In OSX's earlier than jag, screen caps are only possible with macs that have nvida graphic cards, or by using vlc to play the disks

I used DVDBackup for such things. It lets you convert DVD tracks to a quicktime movie, which you can then do with as you see fit.
