Acrobat constantly crashing at startup

every time I try to open Acrobat Reader in OS X, it crashes.
this forces me to open all my PDFs in Preview.
anyone else having trouble with this? any solutions?
I have already trashed the prefs and reinstalled the app, but this didn't fix anything.

this sounds nuts, but it's from the acrobat mac forum; it's a workaround an adobe tech discovered
open system preferences and hit the international icon, then the language tab
rearrange the bottom two asian languages on the list
quit system preferences
i think it was originally for the full acrobat but i think it will work for the reader issues you are having.
