While open office is an awesome application I wouldn't
recommend it to the wife. The reason being it is still in
beta/preview form and might have some bugs that they are
still fixing. Of course people could argue that the major
word processors have that too. I prefer appleworks because
it is cheap, converts ms word files, compatible with older
versions of the mac os, and i don't have to download X11 or
buy a cd. Whatever your choice you have to consider
what your wife requires from a word processor. I just don't
think open office will work for her.
