OSX Doesn't See Modem (10.2.4)

	My son's G4/MP450 stopped 'seeing' the built-in modem. OS9 recognizes it fine -- reinstalled OSX (on a new drive) but still have the same problem. Will resetting the PRAM fix this problem? I wouldn't think so as, OS9 still works fine... Suggestions? Has anyone else had this problem?
