Hi, I know that I have a strange heading, but maybe not a strange question. A friend of mine, who is on OS-9(Classic) took some photos of me, she emailed them to me, I then of course ustuffed them, then when I saw the icon for the jpegs, they had the quicktime "Q"for the jpeg, when I clicked the jpeg OS-9 launched off.
How can I convert them, so to speak so that OS-9 doesn't start up.
I am sure to do this is an easy process, but I haven't firgured it out.
Thanks - :-)

Get info on the pictures, go to "Open with application," choose to open it with Preview.
Or you can just drag them onto Preview to open them that way.

They don't need to be converted at all. The "problem" is that they have creator signatures that indicate which application that they should open with, in this case that would be "PictureViewer", which is a Classic application. There are many ways around this problem, I'll list some of them from easiest to most comprehensive:
1. Drag the files onto the icon of the application that you wish to open them with. This won't change anything about the file association, so you would need to do this every time you want to open the files.
2. Find and delete the "PictureViewer" application. Make sure to empty the trash, since OS X will still recognize applications that are in the trash. Mac OS X defaults to using the Preview application for JPEG files (or any other recognized image format), so if it can't find the application indicated by the creator signature, it will launch Preview.
3. Get Info (command/apple-i) on the file in question, and expand the "Open with" pane of the info window. Select the application you would like to open JPEG files with and then click "Change All". Now any JPEG file that has "PictureViewer" set as the creator will open in PictureViewer instead. This only affects PictureViewer JPEG files, so for example, you got a JPEG file with Photoshop as the creator, it would still open in Photoshop. Also, a PictureViewer GIF file would still open in PictureViewer.
4. Delete the creator code (or set it to one that you prefer) using a utility such as FileBuddy. FileBuddy is shareware, but there are several free utilities that will allow you to do this. Check on VersionTracker.
Hope that helps more than it confuses!
