Hi all.

For the second time in a couple of months, my Mac (G4/533...stock ATI rage pro video) has lost its display settings and reverted my screen to 800x600--with NO OTHER OPTIONS available.

The last time, a restart fixed it. This is my third one, and no luck.

Booting into OS 9 now, just to see if it's the same problem there.

Any ideas on what I need to do?

Cheers
Scott

hmmm....turns out if I uncheck the "show only recommended display modes" I can get it back.

Is this just a preference that's getting broken? Or is this indicative of something else?

many little "quirks" can apparently be fixed by installing the latest os update again using the *combo* updater....perhaps start there if you have not already done so.

Well...it does it in OS 9 as well. Crap. And reinstalling the 10.2.4 updater didn't fix the problem.

Is there any way I can know if this is a) just my video card dying, b) monitor dying or c) a broken preference somwhere?

I have another monitor I can hook up, but will that necessarily give me a definitive answer?

I *have* been looking for an excuse to grab a cheap LCD....

Cheers

zap the PRAM : cmd-option-P-R during startup until you hear the sound.

I'm chiming in to say that I've had precisely the same problem with my Powerbook G4 SD. When I connect the external monitor, I get limited resolution choices. (Only 800x600). I can uncheck the option to limited to recommended resolutions, and get my preferred resolution back.

It's worrisome. I don't know if the problem is my video card or the the monitor... or what. It seemed to start with 10.2.3.
