I seem to remember a piece of software that would let you rip game music but I've forogtten what it was called. I'd like to rip the soundtrack from WarCraft III off my game.

Streamripper X and AudioHijack are two that come to mind, they are available on versiontracker. Ambrosia just announced the upcoming WireTap, which records all system sound, but it's not available yet.

The problem with those are that you have to record them live. There are other game sounds that go on.

Well, it really is a lot easier to go and buy the soundtrack from Blizzard, if you really like it.

I got the Soundtrack in a CD with my Collectors Edition Box

yeah, that's true. Is there an actual music file to find, or can the sound effects be turned offand just have the music?

Well... I think the music is stored in this big package that is a special format just for WarCraft. (.mpq) Even if I did turn off the other sounds.. the music kind of fades in and out... no way to get the soundtrack. And the playing is prob random too.

I also seem to remember the icon of the software to have a pirate captain or something like that.

I have listened to several music files from games using Melody Assistant, www.myriad-online.com. It's worth a shot..

Actually, the music for warcraft III can be extracted with just what you've got installed. You just need to open up the world editor and go into the sound editor. Then all the music files are listed at the bottom under internal music - and you have the option to save them elsewhere.. they are already .mp3s .

Unfortunately I don't think you can do this with warcraft II....

Open your Warcraft III World Editor. Under "Module", go to sound editor(F5). All the music is in the internal music folder. You can export whatever song you want.

Warcraft II is a whole lot easier. Put in the CD, launch iTunes, and import the CD tracks to mp3 files

Cool, that works great. Is there a way to batch export files? If I want to export all of the sound effects.. that could take days.

Don't know why you would want all of the sound files, but whatever. Unless the editor is applescriptable or there is something else I am missing, then no. It should only an hour if you are fast
