I have been using 10.2.4 with no problems whatso ever. Tonight, Entourage quit, OK no big deal I'll restarted it - only to find it quit again immediatly again, it never even showed the splash screen. Then I tried to start Safari- it quit in a similar fashion! IE strarted the splash screen, then quit also!! WTF other programs like iTunes and Word are unaffected (in other words they had no problem. I booted from the 10.2 CD to reset the permissions but still it seems as if any program that uses the internet quits. Even weathermanX quits in 5 seconds! Interestingly the software update has no problem.
I booted into os 9 and there was no problem with any internet program.
I had installed java 1.4.1 when it came out. Otherwise my system is stock, in other words no system hacks what so ever.
Please help - is it some sort of internet preferance? I NEED to get some on-line research done so anyone can give me a hand??

I have no insight into the exact issue you are having, but a clean install is my knee-jerk reaction. You can install and keep all your settings with the OS X installer.
Sure, this is not a surgical addressing of your issues, but the 20-30 minutes this will take is worth it.
My .02.
Afterthought:
Even faster is to make another user. I bet that making another user will help. Create another user, sign in as that user. Hopefully all issues will not be presesnt with the new user. If they are, the reinstall seems like the best thing.

Well, you can post here - so I'm assuming you can do this:
Find the standalone 10.2.4 installer on apple.com. reinstall from that package. Maybe the Java installer as well.
You may also want to do a fsck in single user mode and check your permissions (with apple's utility, of course)
I'm not promising anything, but it's worth a shot and better than reinstalling everything.

OK I did log in as a new user- and I have no issues but- what next? Erase my original user login and lose all the emails and pref settings? Is there an easier way or prehaps an a resons what happened?

Isn't it crazy how one little file can just mess you up?
I wonder which app messed it up. You get 2 guesses.
