I have a copy of sound recording and editing software Amadeus that I use on my Mac (OS X.2.4) to record interviews. The resulting files are .aiff format, and I can convert them to mp3 or wav or anything else.
I would like to burn those files on a CD-R and play that CD-R in a regular CD-player that is ordinarily played for music. So far I have been unsuccessful.
The first time I tried to do this, I dragged the appropriate files over to the image of the disk. With the Mac, I could drag the disk image to trash and it would burn the disk. The resulting disk contained the soundfile (I could find it with my computer), but regular audio CD players were unable to read it.
The second time, I copied the amadeus-generated .aiff file into iTunes3. I then asked iTunes3 to burn the disk. I received the error message that my selected files “none of the items on this playlist can be burned to CD”.
I would like to share this recording with someone who has a CD player but does not have a computer. How do I proceed?
Thanks
Stefan

Burning from the Finder is definitely not the way to do it if you're trying to burn an audio CD. You have to do it from iTunes or Toast.
If you did everything in iTunes correctly, but still go that error, then I guess iTunes doesn't support burning aiffs to CD for some reason. Try converting it to MP3 and then burning.
Could the files be too long to fit on a single CD?

I once got the same error message from iTunes, and couldn't figure out what the problem was.
Check your preferences to see if you have audio CD selected or MP3 cd. I remember that mine had been set to MP3 and I couldn't make the audio cd because of this.
But iTunes is the way to go, that error just means that there's some little thing that's hanging you up.
Good Luck.
(And iTunes sure does burn aiff's just fine, when I copy CD's with it I always use that setting so as to not lose any quality.)

My guess as well, it's about your iTunes prefs.
Second guess: preferences work only after you have quit iTunes and start it up again...(at least concerning the MP3 vs Audio pref).
Try this, good luck.

thanks folks
There were a few lessons I needed to master
First, to get an externally-recorded .aiff file into iTunes, one has to drag it onto the iTunes window. (the "Import" command would not recognize the file as importable)
Second, I had to check the little box next to the file to get iTunes to record it.
Third, to very clearly designate to my Mac that this was going to be an audio/music CD, I needed to have iTunes closed when I inserted the blank CD. Then I designated "iTunes" as the program to open in response to the Mac screen that asked me what to do about the blank CD.
Finally, I had to realize that with 90 minutes of recorded voice, it would be 2 CD's and not one.
