Recently, my iMac/400 (built-in Modem) has developed a problem with connecting to the internet. Normally, I would click the modem icon and select 'connect.' The machine would immediately begin dialing.
Now when I select the 'connect,' nothing happens. So, I have started opening 'Internet Connect' when I want to get online. This doesn't solve anything, but I can atleast see something happening. When I click the connect button on IC (which is active) it becomes grayed out, but nothing else will change that I can see. It stays this way for a few seconds and then returns to its original state. I need to click it multiple times before it will begin dialing PPP. When it does work, it begins to dial as soon as I click the button.
What is going wrong? I there any way I can see more details about what is happening during this pause? I thought it was isolated to my user, but my GF complained that it is also doing it on hers.
Help

my TiBook does this for a few seconds, but only after waking up directly from sleep.
If I open it and immediately go for the connect menu, it takes a try or two to get it to go. I've found that waiting for 10 seconds or so to let the computer wake up works. I've noticed that the battery monitor and other things needs a chance to update before the system is fully responsive.

Sleep was suggested in another forum also. I have tested this theory and don't beieve it is the cause. Last night, I made a point of using the machine for several minutes (about 10) doing non-internet related things befaore trying to connect, but after waking. The pause was still there.
Is there a way to view a 'log' of what the app is doing? I wonder if its trying a number or something.

Don't know if this would be related but there's a current discussion at www.macintouch.com about modem problems - mostly hang-ups while using dial-up.

Thanks for the link. I thin kthis started happening last week or so after the security update.
I'll have to dig arround in the system a bit and look for clues.

This is interesting as my iMac 400 DVSE has exactly the same problem, but it's not a new problem for me. I don't remember exactly when it started but it was around the time I upgraded to 10.2.1 though it may not be connected to the upgrade.
