Hi list,

I can't get rid of the spinning beach ball in Mail. I'm running 10.2.4 on a tibook 1ghz, 512 ram. I've tried force quitting Mail (which works), but when I restart the ball shows up again. Tried restarting, same thing. Tried macjanitor, same result. Ran terminal and did a top -u and see Mail at the top of my list working the cpu at 90%.

I'm a mac newbie, so any help would be appreciated. Should I throw out the preferences? Are there prefs in X?

Thanks much,

Wynn

It's Mail problem. Happened to me too. Just force quit. (Right click on its icon in the dock.)

How long have you given it before interrupting? When you first start using it and have brought in a lot of mail, it can spend a lot of time indexing.

I certainly remember a lot of beach balls and unfriendly multitasking citizen behavior when I started using it.

But now, on my 640 MB iBook, Mail works like a dream and, as I do user support, the ability to type in a keyword and instantly have all relevant emails listed is a godsend.

Thanks for the replies. I tried force quitting, but when I restarted, I had the same problem.

I've been using Mail for about 3 months now.

The problem had to do with Mail not being able to decode a spam email. I got around the problem by not showing the message preview and just deleted it.

All is well again. Thank you.
