Im curious as to what your next step would be after having suffered the following:

Started to reinstall OSX on my Cube with the internal DVD drive. Got through the first disc installation, when the Cube rebooted to ask for the second CD to complete installation the boot process never gets passed the Apple logo. The little daisy progress indicator doesnt even show. It just sits there. So now I cant boot up my Cube and cant get disc one out of the drive. Where would you go from here? Thanks.

I would try to boot the computer from the install disk (hold the C key while booting up) and redo the install. Hopefully that works, good luck.

Will the disk not come out if you reboot holding the mouse down? That's supposed to force-eject CD.

If that works, whip out the ol' DiskWarrior disc. You DO have one, don't you?

Did you update your cube's firmware? Please say you did. If you didn't, you might have a problem. (BTW, the cube should have firmware version 4.19, IIRC)

Well holding down the mouse didnt work and I suspect this was due to the fact that the system was totally nonfunctional. But I did get it to start back up from the install disc 1 which was still in the drive. So I reinstalled OSX without selecting to install the second disc and all is well.

How do I find out the Firmware version though?

BTW, holding down the mouse button did work on restart after install. Thats cool, never knew about that. Thanks.

Open Apple system profiler, quickest way is to go under the apple > select "about this mac" > click the more info tab in the little window and apple system profiler loads. Once profiler loads look under hardware overview (click the triangle if it isn't showing the extended view) and look for the BOOT Rom info line. I beleive on the Cube the up-to-date version will read 4.1.9 (possibly a couple of letters after the 9 but maybe not). Good luck and glad your working again.

Whoah! Thanks for the instruction. My Boot ROM info is this : 3.2f1

So I guess I need to update eh?
What sorts of things could I expect to go wrong by having this outdated Firmware with OSX on the Cube?
Thanks again.

I really don't know what can go wrong with an out of date firmware but I know that it isn't to hard to update. Here is where you can find the newer firmware :
cube firmware 4.19
20", 2gigs ram, 500gig HD, 2.16ghz core 2 duo iMac
iBook 700 Combo/14.1
OS X

Thanks. I updated the Firmware and I DEFINITELY see my network related performance greatly improved, as well as overall better performance.
