I currently have uw imaps (SSL) running great on my server. Now I'm looking to offer my users the ability to use SquirrelMail to manage their mailboxes remotely. However, as I'm sure you're aware, SquirrelMail doesn't support imap over SSL. So, can I just install the non-SSL version of uw imap on top of what I already have working? Will this just listen on port 143 and not conflict with imaps running on 993?

Thanks!

I have that exact setup running. What you can do is just compile imapd w/o ssl support, and just name the resulting binary something like nosslimapd. Move it to /usr/libexec and put an entry for it in /etc/inetd.conf, like so:

imap4 stream tcp nowait root /usr/libexec/tcpd /usr/libexec/nosslimapd
imaps stream tcp nowait root /usr/libexec/tcpd /usr/libexec/imapd

I have squirrelmail working fine on my server. I just closed port 143 on my router so there is no access from the outside world to the unencrypted imap server, but squirrelmail (being on the same machine and all) copes just fine.
