This option does absolutely nothing on my iBook 800 with a logitech mouse. It used to work fine on my iBook 500.
Any suggestions? Thanks in Advance.

Does this work for anyone? Or is it just a bug in 10.2.4?

it depends on what mouse you have -
* Works with Apple Pro Mice?
* Works with most logitech mice
* Does not work with Microsoft mice (tsh typical)
Most mice designed only for mac works.

Has never worked with my 700 - even the setting to ignore trackpad when typing does not work. Now use Logitech cordless optical with current drivers installed, but even before mouse, ignore trackpad did not work.

In my experience, installing any third party mouse drivers kills this system preference. MS or Logitech are those that I have tried. The system supplied mouse drivers will respect this system preference regardless of what type of mouse is plugged in. Unfortunately, you can't have any functionality beyond left click, right click, and scroll whell with the built in drivers ... so any extra mouse buttons are useless in this configuration.

At this point your options are to stick with left, right, scroll functionality and use the built in drivers so the "ignore trackpad" preference works .... and send feedback to Apple.

or ...

Install 3rd party mouse drivers for a fully functional mouse and lose the "ignore trackpad" functionality ... and send feedback to Apple.

I can't help you PeterClark2002, but hopefully someone can....I understand what was just stated by OAW about 3rd party drivers and such, but I have never used anything except the built in drivers from Apple...and the actual mouse in question is an Apple pro mouse!

PeterClark2002,

There should be an app called "IntelliPoint Uninstaller" in the /Applications/Utilities folder.

AU_student_iceBook,

I'm a bit confused. In your original post you indicated you were using a Logitech mouse. That's why I gave the info about 3rd party mouse drivers.

Having said that, if you are using an Apple mouse with the built in drivers, it should be working. If not, then I'm afraid I can't help you.

OAW- You are right...my initial post I said Logitech. (I will go back and edit it). I switched computers with my Fiancé, but she kept her mouse and I kept mine. My iBook is not working with her Apple Pro Mouse. (I'm using her iMac with my Logitech mouse)
Hope that clears things up.
I just tried deleting the preference file for system preferences on the iBook, but that didn't work.
Grrrr....
