Hi, here is my problem ...

I have two machines (a Desktop and a Powerbook) and I am looking for a Sync-solution that the "two" accounts (same login-name) become the "same" each time I hook up the pb up to my LAN, with some exceptions:

I don't want to have synchronized the
1) The Desktop
2) The System-Preferences (Network/Mail/Screen Resolution/Mouse and so on)
3) The Mail-Preferences (but of corse the Mailboxes). The Problem with mail is that, at work, I can not connect several IMAP and POP3 Accounts I have, but I would like to have all received emails also on the Powerbook.

Does anyone has a similar setup ? Which programs do I need for that ? I there a *nix way to simply auto run the job ? I know iSync? is doing that partially with your .mac account, but I don't have one

thanx for you help

I'm finally delving into this area myself. There's a pretty good discussion about it at this thread.

Good luck!

I would love to find a solution to this as well. The sync programs out there all seem to be back-up software, rather than actual synconization software. I've done some digging into OpenAFS, but haven't found anything terribly user friendly.

All I want is the equivalent of my idisk between my laptop and my desktop machine. Seems like a great opportunity for either Apple or some other software manufacturer.

Has anyone else found any other solutions?

Thanks. Will.
