.Mac members get access to a cool training resource for new OS X users. It's a great move by Apple and it's well done.
My question is:
Is there anyway to download the whole course on to my computer using a program?
Would be nice to put it on a CD.
.Mac members check it out, it's great.
Best part of all, it's free for .Mac members ($30 value).

I just got the email, and went to check it out. It is really nice. It answered a nagging little question I had in about 1 minute. I would also like to get this on CD or something.

It's WAY more accurate and real than ANYTHING Apple's done to date text to speech wise...

That voice sounds unreal. Well, apart from the US accent.
If it is artificial, I really hope this is part of 10.3. Is it doing text-to-speech? Does Windows have text-to-speech that sounds this good?
I'd love an Aussie accent - but given it took until 10.2.x to get a non-US-English spell checker, I won't hold my breath...

I don't believe that those voices are text to speech (and there is a male and female voice). The variations in inflections and pace tell me it's a real person talking. I think maybe it sounds a bit artificial because of the compression. I call your bluff moonmonkey!

I was listening to those voices with this in mind and I heard distinct breaths between sentences. I don't think a computer needs to breathe, and I really don't think Apple would add breathing sounds, just to make it sound more real...

just curious, but I wonder how many people will end up using this for "cheap thrills" with all of these comments on breathing/breaths and the voice quality being that good. LOL

They probably put the breaths in to make it sound more human.
I dont realy know, I hear rumors that we will be getting two new voices with panther, probably licenced from AT&T.
AT&T were woking on OSX version of their voices and development suddenly "Stopped" 6 months ago.
I want those voices, they even have some with British Accents.
PC voices are better that mac ones at the moment, I think Panther will leap frog them.

AT&Ts voice synth looks/sounds to currently be the best out there. I hope OSX gets it.
