I have several fonts that are either Postscript, Truetype and Bitmap...

I can't use more than 1 font format of the same font at the same time or they will conflict.

Anyone know this?

Use truetype fonts.

Bitmap fonts are only usefull for very small point sizes and have been mostly replaced by Truetype.

I would expect that postscript would be the way of choice.

Our system is written in Postscript and Illustrator uses the native PDF funtions of OS X for the clipboard...

anyone else want to put in there 2 cents...

I need to clear space and I don't want to loase anything that is better than I keep.

instead of trying to edit this I just wanted ot make sure that you know that I know our system is NOT written in postscript but there is a lot of it in the aqua interface to make it a fairly native thing...

I don't need all you weenies drilling me on a minor point...

this is just to those guys who fixcate on one point that is wrong.

For most purposes, either Truetype or Postscript will be fine. For professional printing purposes, Postscript is preferred, as the workflow is Postscript-based, and Postscript fonts have better hinting than Truetype fonts.

I haven't been able to print my bitmap fonts (noted as orphan) -- do they not print in OS X?

For the most part, you shouldn't have problems either way, to be honest.

TrueType is, for the most part, a better technology for fonts. However, most professional workflows are PostScript-based (TrueType is good for fonts, but that's all it can do, whereas PostScript can do graphics and such, so it tends to be an all-purpose solution in most professional arenas).

So it depends, really. If you don't do any professional work, or your highest-end printing needs involve dropping stuff off at Kinko's, then use TrueType. If you have your own publishing department, ask them, but they'll probably tell you to use PostScript. If you don't know, use PostScript.

Not true. Postscript fonts have much better hinting, which is why they are still the standard for professional work. You can't see the difference in character shapes on a bubblejet printer or the office laserwriter, but on 2400 dpi imagesetters you can tell.
