Hoping someone can clear something up for me...
We have a server that is in a really bad way... Some muppet still has OS 9 applications on it, pirate serials and what-not. Gave me a heart attack to say the least...
What I want to do - since it actually serves some public sites of my client's clients - is re-install OS X Server by doing the following:
1) Copying the entire contents of the Server to a firewire drive
2) Hiring out an identical piece of hardware and doing a clean install of 10.2 and begin building the system from scratch
3) Test the hired computer for a day or two to make sure it runs as it should
4) Go to the server facility, re-backup the existing server to the firewire and then simply copy the contents of the test mac onto the production server.
Whew!
Is this possible? I didn't know if X.2 was like OS 9 and contained hidden 'system enablers' or whatever they're called now.
Has anyone got any similar experiences they can talk about? Any thoughts? This is going to be a pretty intensive couple of days and I can do with all the help I can get (although I've got a pretty good headstart with a lot of the Apple Knowledge Base PDF's on X Server)
