I have had something strange going on since I installed a Pioneer DVR-105 superdrive in my 533/G4/640 desktop running 10.2.3. Adding the drive may have nothing to do with it, it works fine, but this started the next day.
Sometimes when the machine goes to sleep, I can't wake it up. If I push the reset button on the front of the machine, it will restart (although no startup chime) but I just get a white screen, and eventually a blinking folder with ? mark. It can't seem to find the startup folder. If I then boot from the OS X CD, and try to run disk first aid, the hard drive won't even show up in the window, its like it is gone. I have found that if I completely power down the machine, then start it like normal by pushing the button on my 15" LCD, it will start up fine, and then everything is ok for a few more days. Any suggestions?? Could this be a problem with the battery on the mother board?? I know that on one of my older macs, that could happen with a dead battery, but you would still be able to boot from a cd, and reselect the startup drive. I'm stumped.
thanks
