Howdy...
I am 250+ pages into a dissertation that was begun in OS 9 using MS Word and Endnote
This dissertation uses a variety (5 or 6) of fonts to represent diacritical marks and 2 or 3 semitic languages.
Anyway...
I made the switch to OS X (including the OS X versions of Word and Endnote) in the last month and although my fonts show just fine on the screen and in the font pull down window in Word they do not print! In fact **nothing** prints out at all.
I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, putting them in different or several folders (OS 9/Library/User/etc.). adding/changing font extensions (.dfont, .ttf, etc.) but nothing. I've been using (and printing with!!) these fonts for 3 years in OS 9 without issue.
I am pretty desparate after 2 weeks of attempting to fix this and am at wits end.
Any help from you savvy folks is greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

Bit more info...
I've realized that there are 2 bitmap fonts that seem to be part of the problem.
However, when I delete these from the document, the doc still does not print
Awaiting your sage-like advice...

What version of Office/Word are you using? I believe some printing problems were fixed in the 10.1.2 update.
Have you tried using/printing these fonts from other apps, like TextEdit?
What about documents with only "regular" OS X fonts, do they print?

Can you successfully save the document with any of these fonts as a .pdf? (by previewing it, etc.?)
At least then you'd know at what stage the problem is occurring.
If nothing else, you should consider simply booting into OS 9 for this project...

Why do you think it is font/OS X related and not printer related? Does anything print? What kind of printer/connection?

I tried printing via PDF but that did not work either
I have started to try to put together my old set up under OS 9 (Word / Endnote / printer drivers) but I have not been able to get my color laserjet 4500 recognized just yet (I haven't located the instructions yet -- it was a bit convuluted as i recall). However, I have tried to print with that font under OS 9 to no avail (shows up, as in OS X, just fine on screen but nothing heads save a momentary 'data' flash when I send it to be printed)
as for the printer, it prints everything just fine (web pages, word docs with other fonts, email, etc.)
thanks again

in playing around I've isolated a few quirky things that might be helpful:
1) I *cannot print a 1-page doc of notes to self originally made in OS 9 with the font Gublalaser (even when saved under .rtf, .txt., pdf, word 5.1/5.0, htm, unicode...)
2) I *can open a new document with Gublalaser as the font and print it out just fine (?!?!)
3) I *can change the font in the one page set of notes to self from Gublalaser to Times and print it just fine
I wish it was a simple as a font change but I have nearly a 100 pages of 8-column tables with various diacritical marks (which prompted the use of the Gublalaser font) and another 150 or so pages that use strange fonts to illustrate bits and pieces of Hurrian, Ugaritic, Akkadian, and Hebrew -- so the idea of a simple font change won't work....
Thanks again for the ideas that are helping me to try things not yet thought of...

I'm not making any promises, but...
Try creating a new doc. Copy and paste all text from old to new. I have found in the past that a doc can get corrupted and simply copying everything from it to a new one fixes this.
Or find and replace "funny" text to Times and then back to desired font.
Possibly try a comination of these.

I had some success printing to my Canon Bubblejet i950!
In short, everything printed that would not print on my HP Colorlaserjet 4500 that is using a JetDirect connectivity card to enable USB printing (it has 96 MB ram)
However, with the Canon it will *not print any pages that contain certain bitmap fonts
This is promising but still confusing!!
So -- should I go out and buy a Canon laserjet????!!!
Seriously, any comments now??

Gimp-Print.
Sounds to me like printer/driver issues.

Casting aside artistic integrity and all, is there another font that you could substitute that might look as nice but at least print?
