I have an MDD with a Superdrive in the lower bay, and a Yamaha F1 (black IDE) in the upper bay. I would like to use the Yamaha as my primary drive (master,) but I can only get a reasonable setup going with it set to slave*. I find it awkward to have to option-eject all the time to use it. Is there any genius here who might know a way to switch the function of the ejecy key (eject ata33 master) with the function of the option-eject key (eject ata33 slave?) Would making a custom keyboard layout accomplish this?

I should add that this guy seems to be seeking out a similar solution.

As usual, tia.

ps: I decided to put this in here instead of "peripherals" because it seems that I'm most likely looking at an OS level solution, afaict.

*This situation apparently didn't come about until 10.2.4. I hope that this wasn't intentional on Apple's part, and will be corrected in 10.2.5.

OK. Some desperate bumpage here. I know this is not an important subject so I won't bump it again if I don't get a reply.

Not an expert on the situation, but could you just switch the drives?

Nah. Tried that. The problem is that in other drive configurations, something else doesn't work (ex: one drive doesn't work, or the eject key not functional.) Thanks for the idea though.

I'm not sure if many people have detailed info. on this specific area. No big deal. I just I'd put it out there as you never know.

I would use quickkeys to set up two totaly new function keys for ejecting.

Better than nothing.

That's not a bad idea. I'll give it a shot.

Thanks.

That didn't work. It seems Apple treats the eject and possibly volume keys as "special." But...

> UPDATE <

Mac OS X 10.2.5 has solved this problem for me. I now have my Yamaha CDRW set as master (top slot,) and the Superdrive set as slave (bottom slot) and everything seems to be working great. The eject key opens my Yamaha while option-eject opens my Superdrive. Eject menulet works fine. All is good in my MDD optical drive world.

THANK YOU APPLE!!!
