Leaving an external firewire drive yesterday hooked up to my (running) Powerbook G3 caused it into a deep sleep I couldn't wake it out of. So I forced it to restart and here's what has happened:

1. OS 10.2.3 launches seemingly fine but....

2. only some apps work - Safari, TexEdit Plus, iChat, OmniOutliner

3. most only launch their icon for a brief moment and disappear (GraphicConverter, Ideaspiral) while others like Camino launch to full screen and then crash out

I've run my disk utility and it shows nothing is wrong.

But something clearly is.
Any thoughts on how to fix this half-broken 10.2.3?

Thanks.

Try to delete preferences files of broken apps. They are probably corrupted. (See in ~/Library/Preferences)

I had this probolem. its only carbon apps that seem to dio it. If you have problems nailing down which preferecnes are for which app, just remove the entire library folder out of your home directory and reboot. (dont delete it, just remove it, you may need to restore stuff out of /library/application support.
