In order to hook up my cable modem to my PS2 I need to release my IP. How do I do this in OS X?

I'm not on my Mac OS X machine at the moment, but you can do this by going to your Network control panel and disabling the Ethernet port. I think that's how it goes.. someone else can give more specific instructions.

You might try unplugging the power to your cable modem for 20 seconds or so and then plug it back up.

If you're familiar with the Terminal:
sudo ifconfig en0 down
Then when you want the modem on the computer again,
sudo ifconfig en0 up
[vash:~] banana% killall killall
Terminated

Quick question because I'm curious, is this Terminal command for the dial-up modem or the ethernet port? I would like to know the command for the ethernet port because I can never get my iBook to connect on my college campus, and this command might help. I look in the Network System Preference pane, and all the numbers are there, but I never can connect. Sorry if this is somewhat off of your topic clod.

I just got off with my ISP and they told me that I need to get a router because they only let you have one MAC code at a time or something like that. I'll just buy a cheap router. I was anxious to play SOCOM Online . Thanks for the help.

Click on the network preference pane uncheck the ethernet port, or whatever port you are using, click apply. Then check the port and click apply.

If you are tcp/ip savvy you can use natd to create a NAT and forward the socom port s (tcp 10070-10080, udp 6000-6999, tcp 9996 and tcp 9995) to your playstation system.

But you still need a hub to connect all the systems (the cable modem, your OS X system and your playstation 2)

That's for the Ethernet port. "en" is for "Ethernet", and the 0 means it's the first device in the chain (in Unix, many sequences begin with 0, rather than 1. There's a reason for this, but it has to do with programming).

en0 is usually the built-in Ethernet port on Macs.
en1 is usually the AirPort card.
en2 is usually the first FireWire port, if you have the IP/FireWire extensions installed. The numbers go up from there.
