i have downloaded the safari app from apple, and the only time it stays in the dock is when it is running, if i quit it, it disappears, and i have to open my HD to click the icon again to open it. i'm running 10.2 and IE5 icon stays in the dock even if it isnt running along with ichat, and alot of other apps. i'm new to OSX and i know there is probably a easy solution, so what is it? do i have to make a alias? the other icons in the dock are not aliases (i do not see the upturned arrow indicating "alias")

Just drag the Safari icon to the dock when it is not running. Or, when it's running, klick on the Icon in the dock and hold the button. Then select ?Keep in dock?.

P.S. The black arrow under the application's icon doesn't mean that it's an alias. It means that the application is currently running (open).
To make an alias, just select the icon(not one that's in the Dock, must be an icon in a Finder window) and choose "Make Alias" from the Finder's File menu.
