evertime i start up my ibook, (OSX 10.2) i get a window statting there is a problem with a folder (it gives the name but i cant remember and i'm at work right now) and at the bottom of the window it gives me the choices of "fix and use" "use" or "dont use" i have to click it 2 times because it comes back after i click it once. this happens whether i tell it to fix and use, use, or dont use. after that i never see it again. my friend seems to think it is a norton utilities window. it doesnt screw up anything on the system, but it does concern me alittle. any ideas? if someone tells me how to take a screenshot in OSX i'll post a pic of it when i get home.

From you description, it seems to be a broken alias. The original file has probably been deleted and the alias does not point to any existing file or folder.

This window started to appear right after my friend loaded in some aps like ms office, norton utilities, like i said i will take a screen shot or at least get the full description that is in the window when i get home, and i'll post it. the ibook has only been running for 3 days.(i got it on friday) i havent even deleted any apps at all. just loaded some in. it seems like it is a norton thing because it says if i dont fix that the adjoining files can not be protected or somethign like that..(vague description from a poor memory )

o.k. i'm home and i just opened up itunes and the window came up this is what's on it:

"the program you are using needs to use a system file that may reduce the security of your computer. " <that's in bold print

"the file "symfs.kext" has problems that may reduce the security of your computer......."

then it goes on to say i should contact the manufacturer of the program blah, blah, blah

under it all are 3 buttons

"FIX AND USE" "USE" "DONT USE"

no matter which button i choose it always comes up again when i start up, so evidently the "FIX AND USE" doesnt fix anything.

like i said i think it is a part of norton utilities

anyone know?
