MY friend goes to college across the state (MA if you must know). He has a DP1.42 that he doesn't use when he's asleep/at class/etc. I want to be able to tap into that raw power, baby. hehe
I want to be able to like run the GUI of apps (like real, functional apps) on my computer (ti/sd), but all the CPU load would be on his computer, get what I'm saying?
I know this canbe done w/ SSH, but that's command line only, I want full GUI.
I'm looking for a free, simple solution that allows me to run GUI apps remotely.

Try chicken of the VNC it lets you remotely control the mac just like you were in front of it. You can even set it up so that a java applet runs right in the web browser so you don't have to download the client.

Currently there is no way of doing this with OS X native quartz. At leaast not in the sense that other unixen would do it with X11. Of course you can do it on OS X for X11 apps, but not for quartz apps (ie, OS X native apps).
You can do a similar thing using VNC or Timbuktu to view/control the entire display of the remote machine (Mac or otherwise), but not to get the GUI of just the application in question.
Timbutktu is commercial and expensive, but fast.
VNC is free but requires a substantial network connection as it transmits a lot of graphical data (for the sake of being compatible with many different platforms).

OpenStep was able to do this using NSHost (I think) but I don't think there's any equivilent in OS X. The best I can think of is to use VNC.

Timbuktu is not fast however if you are using a PC to control a Mac OS X box. You could always use apple remote access, which isn't much faster either. Hopefully someday soon apple can take advantage of features built into OS X and make a client similar to the killer windows terminal client.
Maybe, just maybe 10.3 will sport something of this nature.

Apple's Remote Desktop will do this, however it is pricey compared to VNC which is free. I VNC into our servers at work all the time on my cable connection to a T1 and it is very usable. I use VNC dimension, which has very little overhead when compared to some of the other VNC OS X clients.
