Does anyone have a solution (probably a piece of AppleScript to throw in Login Items), that will connect a bunch of Samba shares on login?

you need to add something in the "login items" system preferences.

An alias to the drive probably wont work - but would be the easiest solution.

An Applescript would work.

or a URL clipping maybe.

try dragging something of the form:

smb://username@host

to your desktop - then add that file to your login items.
